What is TSH Receptor Antibody (TRAb)?
An antibody that can act on the thyroid TSH receptor and is linked with autoimmune thyroid disease.
TRAb are antibodies the immune system can make against the receptor that normally responds to thyroid-stimulating hormone. Detectable or higher levels can be associated with Graves disease, an autoimmune cause of an overactive thyroid, and the test can also help assess thyroid eye disease or guide care during pregnancy. It is a targeted test used when autoimmune thyroid disease is suspected, and it is a different test from thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulin even though the two overlap.
