What is SDMA (Symmetric Dimethylarginine)?
A close cousin of ADMA that the body clears mainly through the kidneys.
SDMA is formed alongside ADMA when the body recycles certain proteins, but it is removed almost entirely by the kidneys. Because of that, higher levels are most often associated with reduced kidney clearance, and some research has also linked it with cardiovascular risk in people with kidney disease. This is an advanced marker that is not part of a routine panel and is usually measured only in specialized research or kidney and heart evaluations.
