What is Neutrophil-to-HDL Ratio (NHR)?
A calculated ratio combining an inflammatory white-blood-cell count (neutrophils) with good (HDL) cholesterol.
This is a calculated value combining two routine results: it divides your neutrophil count (from a CBC) by your HDL cholesterol (from a lipid panel). Because neutrophils promote inflammation and HDL is anti-inflammatory, a higher NHR can be associated with greater inflammation and, in research, cardiovascular and metabolic risk, a lower value can be associated with a more favorable balance. It is a general marker, not a diagnosis.
