What is Lipase?
A digestive enzyme, made mainly by the pancreas, that helps your body break down fats.
Lipase is an enzyme that helps digest dietary fats and is produced largely by the pancreas. A markedly high level can be associated with acute pancreatitis, and raised levels may also be associated with a blocked pancreatic duct, gallbladder or intestinal problems, or kidney disease. Low levels can sometimes be associated with lasting pancreas damage. Lipase is generally considered more accurate for diagnosing pancreatitis than amylase.
