What is Transferrin?
The main protein that carries iron through your blood, and this test measures how much of it you have.
Transferrin acts like a delivery truck that moves iron around your body. Its level, together with iron tests, can be associated with how much iron your body has in store. A higher transferrin can be associated with low iron, while a lower level can be associated with other nutritional or inflammatory states. It is commonly looked at as part of an iron-status workup.
