What is Thyroglobulin Antibodies (TgAb)?

Immune proteins directed against thyroglobulin, a protein in the thyroid, sometimes seen in autoimmune thyroid disease.

Thyroglobulin antibodies target a protein the thyroid uses to make its hormones, and their presence can point to an autoimmune thyroid condition. Higher levels can be associated with Hashimoto's disease, and they are usually measured together with anti-TPO antibodies when thyroid hormone tests already suggest a problem. They are also sometimes checked in people monitored after thyroid cancer, because they can interfere with a separate thyroglobulin measurement. A positive result is interpreted alongside symptoms and the rest of the thyroid panel rather than on its own.
