What is Remnant Cholesterol?
The cholesterol carried in triglyceride-rich leftover particles, often figured out from a standard lipid panel.
Remnant cholesterol is the cholesterol carried by triglyceride-rich leftover particles, and it is most often calculated by subtracting HDL and LDL cholesterol from total cholesterol rather than measured directly. Higher remnant cholesterol has been associated in research with a greater risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, even in people whose LDL looks acceptable. It is a useful add-on interpretation, especially when triglycerides are elevated, rather than a separate routine test.
