What is Platelet Count?
Platelet count measures the number of platelets (thrombocytes) in your blood — small cell fragments that clump together to stop bleeding.
Platelets are made in the bone marrow and circulate in the blood, where they clump together and interact with clotting proteins to seal off injuries and stop bleeding. Too few platelets (thrombocytopenia) raises the risk of excessive bleeding and bruising, while too many (thrombocytosis) can raise the risk of unwanted blood clots. Platelet count is one of the three core cell lines reported on every standard CBC, alongside red and white blood cells.

How to read a value in context
