What is Oxidized LDL (oxLDL)?
LDL (bad cholesterol) that has been chemically damaged by oxidative stress.
Oxidized LDL is LDL cholesterol that has been altered by oxidative stress, a change that makes it more likely to be taken up into artery walls and to feed plaque buildup. Higher levels have been associated in research with atherosclerosis and cardiovascular risk, and oxLDL is being studied as a marker of unstable plaque. This is an advanced, research-oriented marker rather than a routine blood test.
