What is Myeloperoxidase (MPO)?
An enzyme released by certain white blood cells that reflects inflammation and oxidative stress.
MPO is an enzyme released by some white blood cells during immune activity, and it is a sign of inflammation and oxidative stress in the body. Higher levels have been associated in research with unstable plaque in the arteries and with a greater risk of cardiovascular events, so it is sometimes used as an add-on inflammation marker. This is an advanced, optional marker and is not included in routine blood work.
