What is Leptin?
A hormone made by fat tissue that helps signal your brain about the body's energy stores and appetite.
Leptin is a hormone released by fat (adipose) tissue, and the amount in the blood tends to rise and fall with how much body fat a person carries. Higher levels can be associated with higher body fat and with leptin resistance, where the brain responds less to the hormone's signals. Very low levels can be associated with low body fat or rare inherited leptin deficiency. Leptin is used mainly in research and specialist settings rather than everyday check-ups.
