What is Hematocrit?
Hematocrit is the percentage of your total blood volume that is made up of red blood cells.
Hematocrit measures how much of your blood volume is occupied by red blood cells versus plasma and other components. It moves in the same direction as hemoglobin and red blood cell count and is used together with them to evaluate anemia, dehydration, and polycythemia. Because it's a percentage of blood volume, it's sensitive to fluid balance — being dehydrated can make hematocrit look artificially high even if red blood cell mass hasn't changed.
