What is Large HDL Particles?
The bigger, more mature HDL (good cholesterol) particles, counted by advanced lipoprotein testing.
Large HDL particles are the fuller, cholesterol-loaded members of the HDL family, measured by advanced techniques such as NMR that count and size lipoprotein particles rather than just measuring cholesterol. A higher share of large HDL particles has generally been associated with a more favorable cholesterol profile, though how much extra information particle counts add beyond standard cholesterol is still debated. This is an advanced marker found only in specialized lipoprotein-particle testing, not a routine panel.
