What is Fibrinogen?
A protein made by the liver that helps your blood form clots and also rises with inflammation.
Fibrinogen is a clotting protein produced by the liver, and it is essential for stopping bleeding by helping blood clots take shape. Levels can go up with inflammation, infection, or pregnancy, and higher long-term levels have been associated in research with a greater tendency toward clotting and cardiovascular risk, while very low levels can be associated with bleeding problems. It is measured mainly when evaluating clotting or bleeding rather than as a routine cardiovascular screen.
