What is Dihydrotestosterone (DHT)?
A potent form of testosterone that the body makes from testosterone, active mainly in the skin, hair follicles and prostate.
Dihydrotestosterone is made when an enzyme converts testosterone into a stronger androgen that acts on tissues like hair follicles, skin and the prostate. Higher levels can be associated with androgen-related patterns such as male-pattern hair loss, acne or prostate growth. Lower levels can be associated with certain enzyme deficiencies or with medicines that block DHT production. It is a specialized test usually interpreted together with testosterone and your symptoms.
