What is Atherogenic Index of Plasma (AIP)?
A calculated index based on the balance between triglycerides and good (HDL) cholesterol, studied as a cardiovascular-risk marker.
AIP is a calculated value, not a direct measurement: it is the base-10 logarithm of your triglycerides divided by your HDL cholesterol, with both in molar units - written log10(TG divided by HDL-C). A higher AIP can be associated with smaller, denser cholesterol particles and greater cardiovascular risk, a lower or negative value can be associated with a more favorable profile. It is a research-derived index, not part of standard lipid reporting.
