What is Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH)?
A hormone made by the ovaries that reflects a woman's remaining egg supply, or ovarian reserve.
In women, AMH is produced by small follicles in the ovaries, so it gives a rough sense of how many eggs remain; levels are higher when the egg supply is larger and fall with age toward menopause. It is mainly used in fertility planning and to help predict response to IVF medication, and it cannot tell you about egg quality or reliably predict whether or when you will get pregnant, nor exactly when you will reach menopause. Higher AMH can be associated with PCOS; a low level for your age can be associated with a shrinking egg supply. In male babies, AMH is instead used to check for working testicular tissue.
